Let it Go: Part 2 - Emotional
Last week’s blog was all about decluttering your physical space by letting go of items that were no longer on your level of manifesting your dream life – i.e. items that don’t fit, are broken or holey or that you just don’t like (gifts from Aunt May – sorry Auntie). This week we are going to delve into more decluttering, but this one is way messier. (Please replace last week’s rubber cleaning gloves with a notebook, a pen and some tissues).
Ok….so this week I had been subconsciously putting this blog post off. Telling myself things like “I have plenty of time” “I’ll do it later” “After I run my errands I will get it done”. Yup, then all those negative feelings inside crept up throughout the week of guilt, fear and anxiety and BAM! I was so ill Friday that I couldn’t even get myself into a chair to write. This just goes to show you that avoiding something that can be painful to do doesn’t make it go away – and sooner rather than later it will grow so out of control that it will hit you in the face and make you deal with it. So, as any good coach would do, I listened to my own advice. I knew there had to be some underlying emotional items that I was clinging onto that were no longer serving me, so I needed to do some cleaning.
So I got out my notebook and tissues – I’m a believer in crying it out – science has proven that when it comes to emotional tears, your body releases leucine-enkephalin, which is an endorphin that reduces pain and helps improve your mood. It is also very important to cry out these emotional tears as a detox because it helps reduce stress, STAT! So I sat down and started writing any of the surface emotional stuff I could scratch at the surface at, then I kept writing and digging, and more writing and digging. Pretty soon you will find that the longer you free write and dig at emotional issues you will find a big ol’ scab from something long, long ago. It could be that your father was never around, a significant other cheated on you or that your mother was a raging alcoholic that said hurtful things when she was drunk. These are all emotional issues that you had in your life and never truly dealt with those injuries. I call them injuries because your brain gets activated in the same way whether you have physical or emotional hurt. Studies have also shown that chronic pain can be caused by stress and emotional issues – with the body sending you a pain signal that there is still emotional work to be done.
Once you find the source, or sources, of what you are holding onto that is keeping you from manifesting, you can look at the situation with fresh, open eyes. Holding onto to anger or resentment because of an emotional issue that happened in the past only hurts you. It’s like taking poison and expecting the other person to die – it doesn’t work like that. So you have to ask yourself if holding onto that negative emotion regarding that situation or person is more important than the life you want to manifest. No? Good - Let It Go! You have to forgive yourself for holding on to that anger, resentment and pain and let it go. Realize that you can’t control people or their actions, you can only control how you react to it and how it makes you feel.
One of the most courageous decisions you’ll ever make is to finally let go of what is hurting your heart and soul. – Brigitte Nicole
Now, I am not a therapist, so if you dig in to your emotional baggage and realize that you need professional help – you should seek it. When you are working on yourself it can get difficult sometimes and getting help is something you should never feel uncomfortable seeking.
Once you are finished with your decluttering session, I usually take my piece of paper or papers (depending on how the session went) and I set them on fire (outside, I have learned my lesson the hard way). You can shred it if you want – I just like setting shit on fire (ever since I was young and it has gotten me in trouble numerous times).
Once you free yourself from your emotional baggage and it no longer controls you – you are truly FREE! A good rule of thumb is that if you can make it all the way through your story without crying, you have truly healed from it. This step takes time, but it is TOTALLY worth it in the end – you have to manifest from a place of love and gratitude and the universe has brought those people or situations to you for a reason. I believe that everything happens for a reason and that people are brought into your life for 2 reasons – you are meant to change them or they are meant to change you. Only you choose how you look and react to the situations and people that you are handed – you can choose to be victimized and angry or you can choose to emotionally grow, learn and love that they happened to you. You made it through whatever happened and are still here FOR A REASON!
As I am also a big believer in signs, so at the end of my emotional decluttering and cry session, my daughter comes walking in from outside with a song stuck in her head – the great Bob Marley – Three Little Birds… “Don’t worry about a thing – ‘cause every little thing is going to be alright” – yeah, sing it Bob.
