It’s your story – how are you going to play it?
The past week I have been working through some of my own blocks and have really been struggling. Many people think that coaches, teachers and ‘other people’ always have their crap together and don’t have their own limiting blocks that they deal with. Let me be the one to tell you that in no way is ANYONE perfect with having their crap together ALL the time, including myself. I have been dealing with my own blocks of self-doubt and self-worth. Those are the devils on my shoulder that I have had for my entire life – constantly telling me that I’m not good enough or that I’m not smart enough or that I don’t have my crap together all the time or that people won’t like me or they will think I’m crazy – or blah blah blah.
No one is perfect and always has it all figured out – but if you listen to the devil on your shoulder, your perception of life will be COMPLETELY different then if you were to just push forward and make a choice. The answer is simple – however we get stuck on the execution and the story that we continue to play for ourselves.
The answer – you make a conscious CHOICE to move forward – yes, you may have these feelings of self-doubt like me or have other depressive feelings about other things that have happened in the past. YOU get to choose how you feel about it and the story that you focus on – you can choose to stay stuck with those icky feelings, let them weigh you down and continue to tell yourself the story that these things happened TO you. OR you can CHOOSE to feel and see the situation differently and choose what story you are listening to in your head.
A warrior doesn’t go around listening to the devil on his shoulder telling him not to fight because it’s going to hurt or to cower because his devil tells him he isn’t a good fighter. A warrior stands up, proud of every scar because that is proof that they made it through battle and came out the other side. He goes into battle with confidence because without it – the battle will eat him alive.
I am also not saying that when you have these thoughts or feelings that you should just get over them like it is easy. No, reach out to people, go to counseling, talk to friends, journal – whatever you gotta do to feel better DO IT. However, you could do all of this and still stay stuck because at the end of the day – you have to make the choice…
Are you going to continue to let yourself repeat the same depressive story in your head or are you going to stand up like that warrior that you are and go create your own reality. You get to chose what story plays in your head – but I know that this warrior isn’t going to listen to the devil on my shoulder. I don’t have time for that – because I am here to tell you that you aren’t alone in having those thoughts. That I just am CHOOSING TODAY not to listen to the devil tell his same old story that I’m not good enough and I’m going to choose to move forward in action. So that you know that you aren’t alone. And you know that what you are going through is normal. AND to let you know that you have the CHOICE to change the story in your head anytime you want.
The answer is simple
Everything starts with a choice
We make the execution difficult and messy
Making it more emotional (this is waaaay me) and holding onto the story
Instead you can make a choice to change the story
Then make this same choice day after day after day
This is never ending. There is no – ‘get to a certain level and then you magically won’t have those thoughts or problems anymore’.
You just have to choose DAILY that you are going to create your own reality with what you choose to focus on and what story you play in your head.
My story is that I am a warrior and here to show up and show you that your battle scars and mine aren’t so different. But that’s ok and that it’s totally normal. But let me teach you that there is a better way to choose to live life. Instead of staying stuck.
Totally up to you if you listen, but I know that this will help so many people out there that I’m here to show up and not hide. Not be embarrassed. Not care who judges me. Everyday. Because I am going to continue to choose not to listen to my devil. I’m rewriting my story – one that says that I am enough. Just as I am right now.
You can make that choice too.
